Microsoft Windows Vista price cut and new computers

Media reports indicate that prices of the Windows Vista operating system have taken a sharp tumble even as it awaits Service Pack 1. According to a post on CNET, the price of Vista Home Premium version, which provides the aero interface, is 99 dollars in some US stores.

It would be interesting, and necessary to watch whether branded computer makers who offer pre-loaded Vista (which are cheaper than the packaged versions) in India have taken the price drop announcement by Microsoft into account while making offers and deals. If you are planning to buy a PC, do make that enquiry, whether it is Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer or Zenith.

I don’t believe the Budget announcement of increased duties on packaged software should make such an impact that it would neutralise the 50 per cent prospective drop in prices that MS has announced, according to reports.
