After reporting a somewhat disappointing out-of-the box experience with the Flip Ultra Camcorder (Pure Digital Technologies, 149 dollars online at many stores), I must come down to some specifics:
The first point to mention is that four of 77 videos got corrupted for some inexplicable reason, and stalled the “save to computer” process. The application froze as a result and recovery was painful. Although the camera was connected to machines with one GB RAM and dual core or PIV processors, the software took agonisingly long to work.
On two occasions, I got the following error dialogues:
Cannot copy vid00064 : data error (cyclic redundancy check)
Cannot copy because of I/O error
The remaining videos were copied from the memory of the Flip Ultra (not via the application in the camera) and some uploaded to youtube.
Impression: the software in Flip Ultra is not sufficiently robust.
