Redesigning the Guardian Unlimited website

The World Editors Forum describes in some detail, the approach of The Guardian to the redesign of Guardian Unlimited, rated as “the UK’s most popular newspaper website.”

In particular, it is interesting to note the contribution of a phalanx of editors to the redesign exercise, the initiative to incorporate video into the online presence and the effort to raise “web literacy” among journalists who are primarily comfortable with print.

The statistics point to a sharp rise in traffic to that part of the website that had been redesigned initially. There are some pointers to interactivity levels achieved through blogs and legal concerns associated with hosting blogs.
