‘Quit Chennai’ and head South

The Quit Chennai hoardings have been replaced by ones that speak about a land of gold to be developed by real estate company MARG, south of Chennai and closer to Pondicherry.

This pot of gold is to be found, the advertiser says on the project website, at the following location: “Travel along 89 kms from Chennai or 60 kms from Pondicherry to witness a village named Seekinankuppam in Cheyyur Taluk of Kanchipuram District. This taluk is on the East Coast Road connecting Chennai and Pondicherry. The resplendent Swarnabhoomi is positioned in this taluk along the IT corridor” (close to Siruseri).

I am left wondering whether projects such as this one will have a good school, college and hospital, at least within a 10 km radius. The available evidence is not encouraging not just for this Swarnabhoomi but for anything that is in Chennai’s suburbs…and I don’t believe in miracles.

Talking of developing costly real estate in a city with barely literate panchayats and municipalities, you may like to watch this video. It’s a documentary, not fiction…
