Picnicking engineer drowns in ECR resort

This blog has tracked some of the amusement park deaths in the past. The latest, reported in some detail by the Times of India today, is that of a software engineer Mahesh Babuji who drowned in a swimming pool. The group of employees having an outing, the report says, belonged to Wipro.

Although there is a mention of a life guard in the report, it is unclear whether the Eastwood Resorts personnel are trained in chest compression and resuscitation. For that matter, most of our hotel staff would appear to be ignorant in this regard.

The sad incident seems to be a classic instance of lack of familiarity with basic revival procedures after such an accident.

We can only wonder whether our software majors, who are in the news for bright quarterly results, have been giving their hardworking employees the basic training in emergency procedures. For their part, our every helpful police have registered a case of causing death by a rash or negligent act, Section 304(A) IPC.
